Dual Immersion

Dual Immersion

The Spanish Two Way Immersion Program matriculated to Marco Forster from San Juan Elementary School with a total of 65 6th and 7th grade students in the 2011-12 school year. The program has grown steadily reaching 289 students in grades six through eight in the 2016-17 school year. Students, who began the program in kindergarten, work together to become bi-literate, bi-lingual and bi-cultural learning content in two languages and gaining fluency in both. Students can continue the program throughout high school with the opportunity to receive a Seal of Biliteracy on their high school diploma, a valuable asset in today's global society.

All students take six classes each day: English, math, science, social science, an elective and PE. A portion of daily instruction for dual immersion students is in Spanish. The elective class at all three grade levels is Spanish Language Arts (SLA.)

In 6th grade students take SLA, Spanish language science and Spanish language social science.

In 7th grade students take SLA and Spanish language social science.

In 8th grade students take SLA.
