Student Making A Difference

Marco's Oceanography student Amir decided he wanted to let the community know about how to stop ocean pollution. He went to his local grocery store with his dad and set up an oceanography stand and spoke with shoppers. They are currently working on contacting the Surf Rider foundation who has the same goal as us, which is to have the city of San Clemente ban single use plastics bags and use paper bags.  The Surf Rider Foundation was successful when asking this of the city of Dana Point.

Mindfulness for Teens

Six-Week Program for 7th and 8th Graders to Lower Stress and Improve Emotional Well-being

Mondays, April 10 – May 15

3:30 – 5:00 pm

Marco Forster Middle School

What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness programs are popping up in schools nationwide as studies are showing their positive impact on academic and athletic performance, stress levels, and emotional well-being.

Mindfulness and teenagers

Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction for teens (MBSR-T) uses evidenced-based strategies proven to have a positive effect on teen’s moods, self-esteem, relationships, academic performance, psychological well-being, self- confidence and ability to cope with stress.

The Mindfulness for Teens class

This 6 week series, sponsored by Mission Hospital, will teach mindfulness in a fun and interactive way with individual and group activities, and breathing and body awareness exercises.  The class will provide perspective to help young people recognize and manage their emotions, handle challenging situations, and lay the foundation for positive relationships and academic success.

The six week course, taught by Dr. Stacie Cooper, PsyD, will be held at Marco Forster, and the fee to attend the entire series is $40.  Scholarships are available for any student that needs them and may be requested at the time of registration.  For addition info, call Marci Mednick (949) 499-7292.
